The NNFU Congress

NNFU Congress is the supreme Authority.

 

Duties & Powers of the Congress

 

Congress has sole and authentic right to;

  • Amend the Constitution
  • Set up rules for elections
  • Elect the Executive committee
  • Dissolve the Union
  • Express opinion on various issues and set guidelines for the EXCO
  • Receive, review, approve or reject report from EXCO
  • Approve NNFU annual program plan and budget
  • Receive reports from affiliate members and advise them
  • Delegate all or part of its powers to any constituent elements of NNFU thereof for definite periods and to evoke such powers
  • Appoint sub-committees/taskforce on specific subjects when need arises
  • Authorize the total financial liability levels required by NNFU

 

Congress Meetings

The congress is held every 3 years on a date and venue decided by EXCO Special congress can be convened on recommendations by the National Council Congress is attended by EXCO and by 14 delegates per RFU and 6 of the 14 MUST be women

 

The NNFU National Council

 

It is the highest Authority when Congress is not in session

 

Duties & Powers of National Council

 

The NC shall;

  • Express opinion on various issues and set guidelines for the EXCO
  • Receive, review or reject report from EXCO
  • Approve NNFU budget, annual plan
  • Receive reports from affiliates and advise them
  • Delegate all or part of its powers to any constituent elements
  • Appoint task forces/subcommittees on specific subjects
  • Authorize the total financial liability levels required by NNFU
  • Have special right to fill, by election and for the reminder of the office term, the vacancies occurring in the EXCO

National Council Meetings

 

NC meets once a year when the Congress is not in session at a date and venue determined by EXCO. Special NC can be convened if the EXCO determines so. NC meetings are attended by 3 representatives per RFU, 3 representatives from the Secretariat including the Executive director of NNFU as ex officio member and any other member invited by EXCO.

The NNFU EXCO comprises of 12 members as follows;

  • Nine members with voting rights elected by Congress:
  • A president
  • A vice president
  • A secretary
  • A vice secretary
  • A treasurer
  • A vice treasurer
  • Three additional members
  • Two additional members with voting rights external from the NNFU, chosen by the nine elected members on the basis of merits;
    • One with legal background
    • One with an accounting background
  • The NNFU Executive Director as ex officio member
