The Namibia National Farmers Union Mandate

As per the current NNFU constitution, its cardinal mandate is to serve as the bona fide representative of Namibia’s communal and emerging farmers in Namibia. However, in their new vision NNFU has a desire to be the mouth piece of all Namibian farmers.

The NNFU is a national federation of farmers unions that was created in 1992 to serve as a mouthpiece of Namibian communal and emerging farmers, however, it intends to grow into becoming a trusted mouthpiece for all Namibian farmers. Fourteen Regional Farmers Unions (RFUs) are currently affiliated to the NNFU. The NNFU is registered as “An association Not for Gain” in accordance with the provisions of section 21 of the Companies Act, Act No. 61 of 1973. The NNFU currently has 14 RFUs affiliated to it. The RFUs have over 128 Farmers Associations (FAs) affiliated to them, while over 35,000 individual communal and emerging farmers affiliated to FAs. The FAs and individual members affiliate with NNFU through the RFUs, while the 14 RFUs are directly affiliated to the NNFU.

Our Vision

The vision of the NNFU is to be a strong, vibrant, organized and trusted mouthpiece of the Namibian farmers.

Our Mission

The mission of the NNFU is to organize and unite the Namibian farmers in a trusted official voice of Farmers in Namibia.

The aims and objectives of NNFU are defined in the constitution. These are to:

Protect and advance the interests of communal and emerging farmers.

Promote the development of a viable farming industry in order to: Improve rural community's standard of living and Enhance rural farming industry's contribution to the national economy.

Strengthen stakeholder relations through networking, consultation and engagement among FAs and RFUs and individual members.

Become a financially sustainable union functioning autonomously and independently.

Liaise with international farmers' organizations and promote networking, cooperation and representation of farmers' interests at international level.
