Youth and Women Mainstreaming

The NNFU is working to address the issue of youth and women, as they are not actively participating in the farming and union’s activities. Female and Youth are underrepresented in farming and most decision-making structures in Namibia. It is the reason NNFU has embarked upon establishing youth and women desk to deliberately impower them. In addition, NNFU is working hard to fundraise projects that empowers youth and women. With the support of Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU), our youth and women has participated at international platforms (annually) representing NNFU and Namibia on the table.

Each Regional Farmer Union (RFU) has established its own Youth Desk and formed a national Youth Desk at the NNFU level as part of promoting youth in farming and leadership.

The NNFU Constitution reviewed in 2023 included a clause for 50% women representation in governance structures. This is a deliberate move to empower women. Like youth, women desk is established across levels of NNFU structure.
