Background

Youth farmers are essential to the future of the Namibian agriculture. With challenges like climate change, food security, and an aging farming workforce, young farmers bring fresh ideas, energy, and innovative solutions. Supporting youth farmers is crucial for the long-term sustainability of food security and job creation.

Supporting women farmers with policy changes, financial assistance, and improved access to resources is key to enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and promoting gender equality.

Youth Leadership Incubation Program (YLIP)

The Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU), through its membership with the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU), runs an annual selection process for youth farmers to join the Youth Leadership Incubation Program (YLIP). The program aims to build self-efficacy among young agripreneurs, empowering them to become future leaders in the agriculture sector. Since 2023, NNFU has supported graduates of this program, helping them develop their skills and leadership potential.

SACAU Young Agripreneurs Forum

Additionally, NNFU is represented by focal Youth Agripreneurs on the SACAU Young Agripreneurs Forum. These representatives advocate for young farmers’ interests and engage with other Southern African national farmers’ organizations on key issues affecting the youth in agriculture.
