The Namibia National Farmers’ Union (NNFU) is a national federation of regional farmer’s unions (RFUs). It was established in June 1992 to serve as a mouthpiece for all Namibian communal and emerging commercial farmers.

ACTIVITIES:
✅ Community awareness on Conservation Agriculture
✅ Establishment of demonstration blocks
✅ Establishment of farmer field schools
✅ Training of Trainers under Conservation agriculture
✅ Introduction of Conservation Agriculture technologies and climate smart technologies
✅ Local (within Namibia) and international (Zimbabwe) exposure visits
✅ Farming inputs provision for demonstrations and farmer field schools.
IMPACT: ACROSS THE 3 REGIONS
✅ 105 lead farmers trained
✅ 16 sites and 47 demonstration sites of at least 1 hectare each
✅ 200ha set up under Farmer Field schools and demonstration
✅ 6 different treatments of CA investigated. Demonstrations included, minimal disturbance, upscaling CA in Maize, timing of crop planting and different seed varieties were showcased.
✅ 2 tonnes (2000kg) of Hybrid maize seed supplied- Pan 53, Pan 413 and Zamseed 412
✅ 2 tonne (2000kg) legumes (Cowpeas and Bambara nuts)
✅ 0.5 tonnes of Pearl millet (500kg)- Kashana and Kangala
✅ 3000kg Organic fertiliser supplied
✅ 2 exposure visits held (local and external)
✅ Regional exposure to Zimbabwe - Institutions visited include International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), ZIMPLOW, SEEDCO, Zimbabwe Farmers Union, Foundations for farming.
✅ Local exposure within Namibia - Institutions visited included Shadikongoro Irrigation scheme, AMTA Rundu, Salem horticultural project, Derust Farm, Manheim research, and Krumhuk Agricultural Institute.
