Target Areas

Northern Communal Areas (NCAs) of Namibia namely Kunene, Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Kavango West, Kavango East and Zambezi regions.

OBJECTIVES:

✅ To build capacity of livestock farmers, Community based livestock Organisations (CBLOs) and Micro-Small Medium Agribusinesses (MSMA) on innovative livestock products value addition and marketing.

✅ To improve knowledge, climate change resilient and sustainable rangeland management best practices for Northern Communal Areas livestock farmers

✅ To improve knowledge, climate change resilient and sustainable livestock management best practices for Northern Communal Areas livestock farmers

✅ To strengthen the coordination, collaboration and governance of livestock farmers, , Community based livestock Organisations (CBLOs) and Micro-Small Medium Agribusinesses (MSMA)  and their stakeholders

✅ To advocate for synthesis of policy changes required to improve and adopt sustainable livestock value chain best practices based on applied research and proven sustainable practices.

ACTIVITIES:

✅ Non-mechanised hydroponics fodder

✅ Piloting A and AB grade scheme

✅ Bush to feed for fodder and improved fodder availability to farmers

✅ Small scale agribusiness formed and supported for livestock value chain development

✅ Abbatoir association development for coordination and advocacy of marketing

✅ Mentorship support to livestock auctions

✅ Rangeland Rehydration (RR) trainings in the selected grazing areas of Kunene region and development of grazing plans.

✅ Support to copperatives

✅ Fodder production including infrastructure support such as borehole.

IMPACT:

✅ 3 bush to feed machines purchased for some livestock cooperatives

✅ 4 ha site established and fenced for bush to feed and fodder production through hydroponics

✅ 4 farmer agribusinesses established-Zakumuka Producers Cooperative, Zambezi Meat Corporation (ZAMCO), Ohangwena Livestock Marketing Cooperative (OHLMC) and Kavango Livestock Marketing Cooperative (KLMC)

✅ 1 abbatoir association formed for the Northern Communal areas

✅ Mentership support on A and AB grade schemes

✅ 253 (221 Males and 32 females) trained to improve knowledge in climate change resilient and sustainable livestock management best practices for NCA Livestock farmers

✅ Rangeland Rehydration (RR) trainings in the selected grazing areas of Kunene region (improved rangeland)
